Key issues in pre-service language teacher education

Abstract:
Second Language Teacher Education (SLTE) as a field of study within teacher education is still relatively small. The field is often subdivided into the teaching of English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/EFL) and the teaching of other Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), but this chapter takes a generalist approach of relevance to the preparation of teachers for any type of instructed second, foreign or additional language learning classroom.
