Importance
Risk of major stroke is very high during the hours and days after TIA and minor stroke, but is substantially reduced by urgent medical treatment. Public education campaigns have improved responses after major stroke, but their impact on behaviour after TIA and minor stroke is uncertain, and the number of potentially preventable early recurrent strokes in patients who delay or fail to seek medical attention is unknown.
