How was Latin taught and learned in the late Middle Ages? This thesis provides an evidence-based answer by contrasting the intended purpose and actual use of a dictated dictionary. The two manuscripts on which the analysis is based transmit the so-called Engelhusvokabular, a fifteenth-century alphabetical list of rare Latin and Greek terms and their Middle Low German equivalents.
