A molecular genetic investigation into the regulation of the chloroplast TOC complex

Abstract:

Chloroplasts are ancient organelles that house photosynthesis in all green plants. Most proteins required for chloroplast function are imported into the organelles from the cytosol via the coordinate action of two translocons – the TOC and TIC complexes. A recent forward genetic screen revealed that the TOC complex is conditionally targeted for degradation via the action of SP1, a chloroplast-resident E3 ubiquitin ligase.
