The exchange of ADP and ATP across the inner mitochondrial membrane is a fundamental cellular process. This exchange is facilitated by the adenine nucleotide translocase (ANT), the structure and function of which is critically dependent on the signature phospholipid of mitochondria, cardiolipin (CL).
