Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), encompassing ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD), are lifelong inflammatory disorders of complex and multifactorial aetiology. Genetic studies have played an important role in the identification of immunological pathways involved in the pathogenesis of IBD.
