This thesis describes the application of (arene)Cr(CO)3 methodology to the Stereoselective and enantioselective synthesis of substituted arenes. Chapter one reviews the main methods of preparation and decomplexation of (arene)Cr(CO)3 complexes and the electronic and steric influences of the Cr(CO)3 unit on the arene.
Chapter two demonstrates that the benzylic oxygen directing effect in complexation reactions opera ... [truncated at 450 characters in length]

The work described in this thesis concerns the application of arene chromium tricarbonyl methodology to the stereoselective elaboration of aromatic systems and in particular to the synthesis of homochiral N-methyl-l,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines. The first chapter deals with the benzylic alkylation of substituted 1,3-dihydroisobenzofurans. Coordination of the precursors to the chromium tricarbonyl unit renders these alkylations stereoselective ... [truncated at 450 characters in length]
